SMART GLASS TECHNOLOGIES

A comprehensive guide

TECHNOLOGY

EXPLORING THE EVOLUTION OF SMART
GLASS TECHNOLOGIES

Lately, smart glass has been getting a lot of notice because it changes how we use windows and surfaces. These new ideas let us control how clear or opaque the glass is, which helps with privacy, saving
energy, and making things look nicer.

ELECTROCHROMIC GLASS

One of the most prominent smart glass technologies is electrochromic glass. This type of glass contains a special coating that changes its transparency when a low-voltage electrical current is applied. By adjusting the voltage, users can control the level of tint in the glass, providing instant shading and glare reduction.PDLC Smart Privacy Glass/Film

PDLC SMART PRIVACY GLASS

Smart privacy glass or film that uses Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal works like this: when you apply an electric current, the liquid crystal molecules line up and the glass Becomess clear, letting light pass through. But when you turn off the current, the molecules scatter, making the glass cloudy for privacy.

SUSPENDED PARTICLE DEVICE
(SPD) Glass

SPD glass employs microscopic particles suspended in a liquid or film between two layers of glass. When an electrical charge is applied, the particles align to allow light transmission, resulting in a transparent state. By adjusting the voltage, users can control the degree of tint, offering dynamic shading and glare reduction.

THERMOCHROMIC GLASS

Thermochromic glass responds to fluctuations in temperature by altering its opacity. As the temperature rises, the glass darkens to block excess sunlight and heat, promoting energy efficiency and maintaining a comfortable indoor environment. Conversely, as the temperature decreases, the glass Becomess transparent again, allowing natural light to enter.

PNLC REVERSE PRIVACY GLASS

Similar to PDLC technology, PNLC, or Polymer Network Liquid Crystal, reverse privacy glass operates inversely. In its default state, the glass is transparent, offering clear visibility. However, upon applying an electrical current, the liquid crystal molecules align to obscure the view, providing privacy when needed.

PHOTOCHROMIC GLASS

Photochromic glass is a passive smart glass technology that reacts to changes in light conditions. When exposed to UV radiation, the glass darkens automatically to reduce glare and regulate indoor temperature. Once the UV source diminishes, such as when the sun sets, the glass returns to its transparent state.
