SMART PRIVACY GLASS

Privacy from opaque to transparent

SMART GLASS EMPLOYS PDLC TECHNOLOGY, WHICH RELIES ON LIQUID CRYSTALS

TECHNOLOGY

It's constructed with two ultra-clear glass panes sandwiching a smart film during lamination. This film houses a layer of liquid crystals. Specialised glass factories handle the lamination process, which utilises a particular oven to apply heat, pressure, and a transparent adhesive layer (EVA) to securely bond everything.

The resulting product boasts a laminated/triplex structure, making it a popular choice for privacy applications.

When de-energized, the liquid crystal molecules scatter light, rendering the glass opaque with a milky appearance. Conversely, when an electric field is applied, the molecules align, permitting light transmission. This transforms the glass into a transparent state, though it may retain some opacity when viewed from an angle.

Smart glass typically comes in a 12mm thickness, composed of:

  • 5mm glass

  • 2mm EVA glue and film

  • 5mm glass

Installation is similar to that of regular glass and can be completed by any glazier. After installation, simply connect the provided electrical cable from the glass to the included 48 volt output transformer. This transformer comes equipped with a remote control and a connection  for a permanent wall switch / smart home.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

image 83 (3).png
Are there any acoustic benefits associated with Smart Glass?
Smart Glass is indeed an effective acoustic product due to its composition. It typically consists of two glass layers, two interlayers, and a 5 layers film comprising a total of 9 layers. The acoustic rating of Standard Smart Glass is 37 dB, while IGU Smart Glass results with an impressive rating of 47 dB. This layered construction effectively reduces sound transmission, making Smart Glass an excellent choice for environments where noise reduction is a priority.
What is a typical Smart Glass structure?
Smart Glass typically includes two outer layers of glass, which provide structural support and protection. We use extra clear tempered polished edges glasses.
What is the weight of a Smart Glass?
Standard 12mm / ½” of Smart Glass weight 25Kg Sq.M / 6.5lb. Sq. Ft.
Does Smart Glass be installed in a standard Aluminium frame?
Smart Glass can be installed in all standard aluminium frame systems, floor to ceiling as well as custom frames that can accommodate the Smart Glass thickness 12mm / ½” and covers 2cm or 7/8” of the glass.
What are the disadvantages of Smart Glass?
The main disadvantage of Smart Glass is the high cost, Smart Glass is significantly more expensive than traditional glass. In addition Smart Glass reduces the transparency of the window by 10%-15% and will increase the haze by app 3%.
